Jamaican engineers are quite keen to see how Net Zero Energy construction can help Jamaican reduce energy consumption and reliance on the public energy grid.
Members of the Jamaica Institution of Engineers (JIE), in discussions with a team of architects and engineers from The University of the West Indies (UWI) Net Zero Energy Building Project, noted the potential for a shift in building forms as this technology is especially suitable for tropical and sub-tropical countries.
The Net Zero Energy Building Project which is being implemented by the Institute of Sustainable Development (ISD) at The UWI, Mona, with financial support from the Global Environment Facility and technical assistance of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), will see a model building being erected at the UWI by year’s end.
