Emergency Shelter Inspection Form

This inspection form was developed by the Ministry of Labour in collaboration with the ODPEM. You can download it by clicking here.

Emergency Shelters are buildings usually designated in the planning stages of Disaster Management Programmes that could house victims of an emergency or disaster. They provide a facility from which the immediate needs of the victims of disasters can be met.

Structurally sound buildings such as schools, churches, halls or other public or private buildings with adequate space, good internal facilities and free from localized hazards are generally suitable for use as shelters.

Emergency Shelters shall be sited in close proximity to the community they are intended to serve and should be staffed by personnel living in the area. The facilities provided at these centres should meet the minimum requirements to provide food, drinking water, sleeping and sanitation facilities.
