About Build Better Jamaica Phase 1
Build Better Jamaica is an effort to promote sustainability and climate change resilient buildings in the Caribbean. It came out of the Developing Design Concepts for Climate Change Resilient Buildings project, which was funded by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and was implemented by the Institute of Sustainable Development, University of the West Indies, Mona.
The main objective of the project was to assess climate-change related risks and to help increase resilience in the building stock of Jamaica and the Caribbean.The specific project objectives were:
- to develop new design and construction concepts using energy, water and resource-efficient material;
- to improve the assessment of climate change related risks as it relates to infrastructure; and,
- to increase awareness, knowledge and dissemination of information about climate resilient construction concepts.
